Best Bakery in Tacoma WA
In this blog post we will share our list of Tacoma’s Best Bakeries and what you need to know about them, complete with links to their websites.
If you have a hankering for sweets like I do, you’ll probably want to save this webpage so that you can visit this little slice of happiness over and over again. We’ve done our duty by visiting these businesses and are here to share the goods.
Corina is Tacoma’s own slice of heaven… and we don’t just say this because of their cakes, although that’s what they are well known for. Corina is a locally owned bakery in downtown Tacoma off 6th and Fawcett. They’re open 7:30-4pm on during the week, and 9-3 on the weekends. Some of our favorites include their ham and cheese croissant (warmed up of course), their brownies, their molasses cookies, and their cheesecake. They’ve got plenty of seating, and friendly staff, although parking can be a bit tricky sometimes!
Wren’s Nest is newer to the Tacoma scene, and we couldn’t be happier! First thing to know is that this is a gluten free bakery. I honestly found that hard to believe when I had their cinnamon roll… it is gooey and delicious and way too good to not have any gluten. Located on Pearl Street, close to Point Defiance, this place is the perfect guilt free stop after taking a trip to the park (although don’t worry, they use sugar haha). They’ve got muffins, scones, cookies, and even savory options such as the ham & swiss hand pie, or quiches. Find yourself a nook to eat your spread in their ample seating, complete with giant fireplace and cozy seating.
Pies, cookies, donuts, cinnamon rolls… Maggie Magee’s has the goodies that you want! With a host of options, including vegan and gluten-free, this bakery has become a staple in the Fircrest neighborhood, located on Regents Boulevard. They can take custom orders for cakes and cookies as well. Come visit this shop and don’t miss Cinnamon Roll Sundays! Pop in when they’re open Thursday-Sunday.
Ok so we realize that Metropolitan Market is a grocery store (although a fancy one), but considering we frequent it about 3-5 nights weekly just for some sweets, it had to make it on the list. They are most well known for “The Cookie” which is a freshly made ginormous combination of cookie dough, chocolate, walnuts and sugar and is absolutely marvelous. I recommend pairing it with some vanilla ice cream, conveniently found a few aisles over. You can also find cakes, cheesecakes, cupcakes, brownies, banana pudding and an array of other items to keep you there all night, struggling to decide which delicacy to take home. Located on Proctor St and N 25th, there’s lots of parking and bonus– they’re open until 11pm every night of the week for you night owls with a sweet tooth.
The first time I tried the cinnamon roll at E9 Gastropub, I was blown away. First by the size of it (about a full dinner plate), and then by the taste. I was devastated when the next time I went, they told me that they didn’t have them anymore… then the universe sent me the Cat & Rabbit, opened by Julia Brown & Terryn Abbit. The two teamed up to bring Tacoma amazing cakes and of course, the cinnamon roll. They sell cake by the slice at their walk-up window on 6th Ave, and you can also pre-order for events. Open 12-4 during the week, 11-3 on the weeknds, closed Monday Tuesday.
We first heard about this gem, because some friends were raving about their home made “pop-tarts.” We had to try it for ourselves, and we ended up actually falling in love with their lemon bars . This bakery prides themselves on making everything from scratch, and you can taste the love in their treats! Located on Center Street in Tacoma, this micro-shop is magical. They have seasonal treats, cakes, brownies, scones, berry bars and even home made twinkies!
Did you know that you can find macarons in Tacoma? Check out Unique Bakery and make sure you try their array of pastries, croissants, tarts, and cakes. This is a spot you need to visit multiple times, as they often have delicious new items at different times. Located in downtown Tacoma on Market Street, this spot has only gotten better since they’ve opened. We love that they will warm your treats up too! Open 8-4 during the week, 9-2 on Saturday, and closed on Sundays.
Ok this one comes with an asterisk, as it is not located in Tacoma, BUT it had to be on the list because in my humble opinion this is the best bakery around. A Quick 15 minute ferry ride away, Snapdragon is a haven to sweet seekers. A locally owned bakery and vegetarian restaurant, this spot is worth the trip! They have donuts, pinwheel pastries, and gooey cinnamon rolls galore. Their croissants are to die for, and they have cupcakes and cakes as well. During the warmer months, enjoy your treats in their outdoor seating area that is the most magical spot. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff will ask you about your day. Highly recommend making a date out of it, you’ll want to stay all afternoon. Check it out Thursday thru Sundays, 10-3pm.
