Tacoma’s Bustling 6th Ave is a great place for bar hopping. We’ve compiled a list of our favorite bars with some recommendations and what to expect at each place. Read on to find your next local spot!
Wine, beer and pizza, what more could one want? You’ll find it at this picturesque bar located on the corner of 6th and State St. They have booths and tables and an appealing aesthetic. We love their Coach 19 pizza, or their Pickled Grape pizza if you’re in the mood to try something different! Ask the staff what drinks they recommend to pair with your food options. Open til 9pm during the week, 10pm on weekends.
A fun Tacoma hot spot that is popular all day long. Not only do they have a fabulous brunch menu (you must try the Moco-frickin-Loco), but also a variety of breakfast beverages such as moonshine mimosas or their “Mountains Out” Bloody Mary. They have plenty of seating, as well a giant projector TV, making it a great place to watch popular sport events. They are open until 10pm during the week, 11pm on weekends.
A dive-y pool hall at the heart of sixth avenue, O’Malley’s is a lively and friendly Irish tavern. When there isn’t live music for dinner or brunch the jukebox does not disappoint. With a full bar and great beer selection this is the choice bar for many Tacoma’s. If you haven’t yet, we recommend enjoying the free pool during Sunday brunch, where you can try a traditional “hash” among other Ireland staples like “bangers and mash” or “shepherds pie”. Open til 12m on weeknights, 1am on weekends.
With fun, bluesy music relaxed and laid-back would describe the atmosphere of this restaurant. Typically, Crown Bar is the choice for those who want to enjoy a yummy and trendy dinner with their cocktail. Playful large plates, burgers, and delicious shareable make up the menu, “chicken and waffles” is a crowd favorite. Start the weekend early on Thursday nights with karaoke. Open til midnight during the week, 2am on weekends.
This swanky bar is newer to the scene but has made its mark on the hearts of Tacomans. With small plates that are changing seasonally, and unique cocktails, Field Bar has solidified its place on 6th Ave. It’s cozy seating and stylish aesthetic makes you feel right at home. Their bartenders have a vast knowledge and can help advise on any beverage you might desire. Open til 10pm, and closed on Sunday & Monday.
6. Half Pint:
A fun dive bar with delicious pizza and old-times arcade games. Enjoy a blast from the past playing Pacman while you sip on one of their local beers. The atmosphere is casual and the staff is fun! Check out their Thirsty Thursday trivia night, which guarantees to be a real hoot. Try a different pizza every time you come, we recommend the Bacon Cheeseburger pizza! Open til midnight & closed on Mondays.
Hot dogs galore to be found at this unique Tacoma staple. They have vegan options, ciders and over 20 craft beers on tap. We recommend trying the Tacoma dog, or the 6th Ave strut, both promise to be finger-licking good! It’s a casual, friendly bar with community seating, perfect for making new friends. Open 11am-11pm every night of the week.
Welcome to Tacoma’s speakeasy! Once you walk past the curtain, you’re greeted with the coolest atmosphere complete with dim lighting, groovy music, smoke from their flaming cocktails, and all around an air of cool vibes. Try their delicious cocktails with fun names & amazing garlic French fries. We recommend making a reservation, or you can join their online waitlist found on their website. Open til 10pm on week nights, and midnight on weekends.
10. Off Day Beer & Wine:
A cozy, casual bar great for playing board games with your friends on a night out. Recently remodeled and under new ownership, they offer wine, beer and cider. Wednsdays they have trivia, Thursdays open-mic night and music bingo is offered on special occasions. Another perk- you can bring your pup! Open til 10pm, closed Monday & Tuesday.
This long standing Tacoma sports bar is the perfect place for a large group to enjoy a night out. Complete with pool tables, pull tables and TVs around streaming all the games. They offer a full bar as well as all the classic bar food you could ever want. Check out their seasonal cocktails! Open til midnight during the week, 2am on weekends.
This unique concept of a bar has all the beer options you could ever want. They have over 50 beers on tap and an extensive cold-case with even more options, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. With plenty of seating inside and out, check out the local food trucks in the parking lot almost every night of the week in Tacoma’s warmer months. They don’t have a food menu (hence the food trucks), but on the upside, they allow dogs inside! Open til 11pm every night of the week.
