Buying a Home in Tacoma Remotely: What it Looks Like.

Purchasing Your Home From a Different State

Thanks to Zoom, FaceTime and apps like Marco Polo, buying a house remotely isn’t as crazy as it might seem. Last month I was interviewed by clients who were from Tacoma originally, but had been living in the Bay Area for over 15 years. They had purchased and remodeled a beautiful home and thought they would live there forever, but with both of their careers switching to being remote, decided they wanted to move to Tacoma and buy their dream home. Only a month earlier, I had helped another family from the Bay area remotely purchase their home in Pierce County. I walked them through the process- now I want to now share with you what it looks like.

Starting the Process for Buying a House Remotely

First, we chat on the phone or meet on Zoom! We will go over your criteria for a home, discuss timelines, and where you’re at in the process. If you are buying with cash, we’re ready to go! Otherwise I will send you referrals for a couple local lenders to get pre-approved for a home loan. My referrals make the process quick and easy! Once you are ready, we will meet on Zoom and I will set up searches for you in our Multiple Listing Service. I can help you figure out what areas and neighborhoods will best serve you and your needs. Tacoma and the surrounding areas have amazing options, whether you’re looking for waterfront, acreage, or walkability, we can find it all!

What Looking at Properties Virtually Entails

Once we find properties that you are interested in, I set up a time to “walkthrough” the property with my team. We will get there early, open the house, then call you on FaceTime so you can walkthrough with us! We take our time, pointing out everything that we see, including materials, how spacious the rooms feel etc. You will be there, able to ask questions, able to look through every nook and cranny with us. After the walkthrough, we will end the FaceTime, and we will take a full video tour of the house, and send it to you to look at and reference after the fact. If you have a trusted friend or family member in the area, we always welcome them joining in person as well.

Connecting and Deciding

After walking through a few properties, you will start to get a feel of what you are looking for and liking. When you’re ready to put in an offer, I will help guide you, choosing a strategy, and explaining the forms and how the process works. The market has leveled a bit in the past few weeks, and every seller wants different things. Having an agent and team that excels in communication and current strategies is necessary to not only find your perfect home, but also to not overpay.
