Tacoma Restaurants: The Best Breakfast Tacoma
In this article we share some of the best breakfast Tacoma has to offer.
Art House Cafe: Located in the Historic Stadium District
Art House Cafe is always at the top of our list when people ask us for our favorite Tacoma breakfast. Judging by how busy it always is, Tacoma thinks it’s pretty good too. If you plan to eat with a party of more than 6 people you can make a reservation, but if less than 6 you sould plan on having a healthy wait, especially on weekends. The pro move is to show up earlier than you want to eat, put your name on the list, then go get a coffee and cruise around the Stadium District until they call. Our favorite dish is the homemade breakfast pastry called “The Classic” as well as the seasonal french toast. That said, Art House really has it all, sweet, savory, vegetarian and LOTS of healthy options. Don’t miss this one!
Tibbits @ Fern Hill: Located in South Tacoma
This South Tacoma staple is the coziest neighborhood cafe that you ever did see. Tibbits is one restaurant that you will definitely want to make a reservation for, and probably keep the party small. A family owned and run business, we recently met with the owner Shawn Tibbits after an amazingly delicious breakfast and we even got a tour through the tiny kitchen that would wow even an amateur foodie. How Shawn and his team are able to make anything is absolutely mind-blowing! The menu is small and honestly we love that because you can tell just how much attention, detail and love has gone into crafting each dish. The food here is complex, and the presentation is stunning. Make sure you arrive with an empty belly and plan to take a nap after, because this food is rich! We recommend trying the Omelette- be sure to savor the brie on top!
Cooks Tavern: Located in North Tacoma
Cooks Tavern might be the least tavern-y tavern we’ve ever been to but once you taste the food, you won’t care what the name of this place is! With a quarterly rotating menu, you will never run out of new and exciting dishes to try at Cooks Tavern. The nice thing is that part of the menu is stationary, so there are always some delicious staples that you can return to time and time again, their eggs benedict are absolutely to die for delicious. Although there’s usually a wait for this popular place, the large dining room has ample tables, including patio seating during the warmer months. Boasting farm to table sustainability, we love that this large menu has savory and sweet options, it definitely has something for everyone.
Waffle Stop: Located in the Proctor District
Before Waffle Stop opened in Tacoma, we honestly had no idea what we were missing. This Tacoma breakfast restaurant is so cute inside, that you might think it’s a chain restaurant, but don’t be fooled this place is one of a kind and family owned! Located in the heart of North End Tacoma’s Proctor District, it is easy to find but you will probably have to park a block or two away. There are three types of waffles that you can get- the Pearl Sugar waffle, the Buttermilk Waffle, and the Southern Waffle. One of our favorite aspects is that you can switch to whatever waffle suits your taste buds the best. The menu has savory and sweet meal options, each one more delicious and piled high with goodies. We recommend adding blueberries to the buttermilk waffle for a breakfast you won’t forget!
Shakabrah: Located in Tacoma’s 6th Ave District
A Tacoma breakfast staple, Shakabrah sits right on 6th ave in the heart of the food and bar scene, and right next door to our friends over at Gather Juice Co. It’s a no frills, wallet friendly restaurant serving up standard breakfasts with a little something for everyone, including vegan/vegetarian options. The waits can be a little long on the weekends, but pretty much everywhere on this list will have a wait, so don’t be deterred!
Southern Kitchen: Located in Central Tacoma
Southern Kitchen is one of Tacoma’s most famous gems, and not just for brekky. Located on the edge Tacoma’s Hilltop and Central Tacoma neighborhoods, this restaurant has been a must for breakfast lovers for years. They cook up breakfast until noon everyday with classic like short stacks, french toast and chicken fried steak, as well as unique dishes like fried catfish breakfast.
