Weather in Tacoma: What is the weather in Tacoma like in the summer?

In this blog post we will discuss what the weather in Tacoma in summer is like. We will prep you on conditions, what to wear and what to do!

Summer Weather in Tacoma:

During the summer, the temperature in Tacoma likes to hang out anywhere from lows in the mid 50s, to highs in the mid 70s, sometimes up to the mid 80s! Most summer days are blue skies with some clouds, where it’s hot in the sun, but still a manageable temperature in the shade.

What to wear in summer in Tacoma:

Be prepared to see locals don their shorts come late spring… when the temperature hits the 60s, we consider that to be warm! Birkenstocks and crocs will become a wardrobe staple and we recommend layers, as it will be warm during the day, but will still get pretty cool at night! Stock up on some swimwear, this is the time of year to be jumping in alpine lakes, or floating the rivers! Keep in mind, your swimsuit will likely last you a long time as this weather can be a bit short lived.

Some of our favorite Tacoma local summer activities include:

  1. Hiking at Mount Rainier: Whether your style is more of a day-hiker, or you’re a full on backpacker, this is the perfect time of year to enjoy the outdoors. If you’re not much of a hiker, you can still drive up to either Sunrise or Paradise and enjoy beautiful views of the mountain, we recommend catching sunset up there!

  2. Go Camping at the Coast: The Washington coast is rugged and beautiful, especially in the north. Drive through the Olympic National Forest, and make sure you stop at Rialto Beach or take a hike down Ruby beach, enjoying the scenery and nature views.

  3. Go swimming in one of Washington’s many lakes: If you’re in Tacoma, some of the most popular lakes are American Lake, or Lake Tapps. Both have local parks where you can enjoy access to these large lakes.

  4. Stroll through Antique Row: Tacoma is known for it’s many locally owned thrift stores, and there’s quite a few located next to each other in downtown Tacoma on Broadway street between S 7th and S 9th!

Things to prepare for in summer in Washington:

Prepare for locals to be extremely happy, and outdoorsy! After being cooped up inside for most of the winter, now is the time of year to take full advantage of living here. Be prepared to fully enjoy all that this state has to offer, and realize you never want to leave. If you start to experience this feeling- it’s probably a good time to begin investing in real estate!
